Enjoy this fun tale of a real rogue who is an adventurer at heart and an all-around sport with an over-developed sense of fun. Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports shop at Coral Reef hotel, just up the beach from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on sailing excursions along the coast. He was a master seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in navigation, and marine work. Rex was one of the most captivating Rogues one would ever meet. His spirit of fun and sharp wit enveloped every situation. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, to camp along the banks of Joes’ river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild herbs, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.
As a child, he would set off on his own to commune with nature: Taking off with merely the basic essentials, shorts, t-shirt, loafers, hunting knife, a Panama hat, and little else, he lived off the land: He sheltered among trees, caves, and rocks, which he covered with bush and debris, making a roof with palms and banana leaves. Banana leaves have many usages. Wrapped around food, they serve as a container for cooking over a fire. They make an excellent surface to serve up a meal, and can be used as a shade and a cover on which to lie down.
